Clear aligners, options to comfortably and discreetly straighten teeth without braces

At the office of Douglas Hoppe DDS, our team strives to support the sustained health and beauty of our valued patients’ smiles. Additionally, we strive to provide a top-notch experience to individuals and their families in central Michigan from our comfortable and well-appointed office in Eaton Rapids.

The use of cutting-edge and innovative technologies, such as clear aligner therapy, helps to support this mission of optimal treatment and a comfortable patient experience.

Invisalign®: A pioneer in clear aligners

Today, clear aligner therapy represents a category of orthodontic treatment. This type of treatment presents an alternative to conventional orthodontic treatment with braces. However, Invisalign® still distinguishes itself as the first clear aligner treatment. It was introduced back in the late 1990s as a means of correcting more modest, cosmetic spacing issues. Since then, Invisalign® has evolved to where it can treat both minor misalignment of the teeth as well as more extensive problems with the bite. A misaligned bite refers to imbalances between the opposing upper and lower teeth when you bite down or close your mouth. Common bite problems include overbite, when the upper teeth protrude over the lower teeth, and underbite when the lower teeth jut out past the upper teeth.

In addition to presenting a cosmetic concern, misaligned teeth, and bites can present health concerns. Crowded teeth, for instance, are harder to clean properly. In turn, your teeth may be more vulnerable to dental decay. Furthermore, misalignment or malocclusion is associated with the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction. So, we may be able to finally achieve lasting relief from chronic headaches, facial pain, and other health and quality of life-related concerns, in addition to achieving your most attractive “goal” smile. And we can do so without using “fixed” (non-removable) silver-colored braces made from metals.

The Invisalign® process

Invisalign® involves wearing a series of clear aligners as directed by your dentist, Dr. Hoppe. The aligners are simply oral devices custom-fit to your mouth. They resemble whitening trays or retainers. Each aligner tray corresponds with a different step in the treatment process. So, it is important to wear them in the correct order and for the right amount of time, typically between one and two week(s). While the average patient wears between 18 and 30 aligner trays for a total treatment time of around nine to 15 months, the number of aligners required and the entire treatment is patient-specific. We account for factors such as the nature of your misalignment and the severity of the condition(s) to be treated with Invisalign® therapy.

The aligners themselves are made precisely with the use of sophisticated software. Due to 3-D modeling capabilities, Dr. Hoppe can even show you how your teeth will be repositioned throughout treatment. So, you get to see the results from treatment before the first aligner is even made! Plus, since the aligners are made from clear and smooth plastic, they are comfortable to wear and are invisible when you smile. Last but certainly not least, patients love how they can remove their aligners when eating meals and when brushing and flossing their teeth. This important feature of Invisalign® ensures that treatment does not disrupt your life or lead to other health problems, such as dental decay caused by oral hygiene challenges during orthodontic treatment. Call (517) 667-7066 today to schedule your Invisalign® consultation with Dr. Hoppe at our office in Eaton Rapids, MI.
