Veneers are thin layers of tooth-colored materials, such as ceramics like stain-resistant porcelain or high-performance plastics (composite resin). Modern veneers are so thin that typically very little natural tooth enamel is required to be removed to complete the procedure. Usually, the enamel removed to accommodate the veneer is no thicker than a fingernail or contact lens. This feature of modern, ultra-thin veneers helps minimize tooth sensitivity and to present a more conservative, tooth-preserving procedure for our valued patients. Furthermore, this characteristic also helps to ensure the strongest bond between the natural tooth and the veneer that is placed and secured on top of it.
In consultation with you, Dr. Hoppe may recommend veneers to disguise cosmetic concerns not limited to the following:

Generally, after a very small amount of enamel has been removed, we collect information about the tooth (or teeth) to be treated. This information is then sent to our lab, which makes your permanent veneers. To protect the prepared tooth, we can apply provisional or temporary veneers. Once the permanent ones are ready, you return to our office. So, we can remove the temporaries and ensure that the permanent veneers look and feel great before securing them to the front surfaces of the visible, formerly “imperfect” teeth in your smile.
